From Harold Hawkins, 2006/2007 VGHA President

It’s hard to believe that this year is almost over. My time as your president has had its rewards and disappointments. With the limited funds available, I think your board has done an excellent job in your behalf.

It is that time of year again; time to start thinking about next year’s VGHA board. Does the idea of working on fun neighborhood projects with a group of talented, dedicated and creative people intrigue you? Then please consider becoming a board member for 2007-2008.

I would love to see an increase in participation. Out of 58 homes we only have 21 members. This is a start but imagine what we could do with more participation. Looking back this year, our biggest contribution was made in the beautification of the neighborhood entrance. This made a tremendous impact on the look of our neighborhood, you must agree! There have been suggestions for even more beautification projects. However, without the support and manpower needed these projects remain on hold.

Without your participation we are unable to operate. This may be a revelation for some, but volunteering really is an obligation and is expected of all households. It is not fair that few continue to contribute while others reap the rewards without making any efforts.

I would like to take a moment to speak directly to past officers. During your time on the board, I am sure that you experienced frustrations with participation. It is at this time that I ask you to please re-consider re-committing to the association. We need you now more than ever. Even if you choose not to be a board member, your past knowledge and experience is vital and desperately needed.

Anyone is always welcome to contact current board members with questions about specific opportunities. Whether you can give a little or a lot of time, I highly encourage you to consider volunteering.

Halloween is upon us. Please remember that children will be excited and playing in our streets. Our children are precious to all of us. So please drive carefully. Report any suspicious activity by calling the non-emergency police number 587-6730.

We would like to welcome all of our new residents. If you can, please stop and say hello and welcome them to the neighborhood.

Thanks everyone for your support.
Harold
VGHA President
